রাঙ্গামাটির বাঘাইছড়ি উপজেলার কাচালং সেতুর পাটাতন ভেঙ্গে পাথর বোঝাই ট্রাক খাদে পরে বাঘাইছড়ি উপজেলার সাথে সারাদেশের সড়ক যোগাযোগ বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়ে পরেছে।
৮ মে সোমবার সকাল ৮ ঘটিকায় সীমান্ত সড়কের জন্য নিয়ে আসা পাথর বোঝাই একটি ট্রাক সেতুতে উঠার পরপরই পাটাতন ভেঙ্গে নিচে পরে যায় এতে সেতুর দুই পাশে শতাধিক যানবাহন আটকা পরে বহুমানুষ দূর্ভোগে পরেন। পুরাতন সেতুর মেয়াদ উত্তীর্ণ হওয়ায় ২০১৬ সালের ১১ জানুয়ারী নতুন সেতুর কাজ শুরু করে সড়ক জনপদ বিভাগ। ২০১৯ সালের জানুয়ারীতে কাজ বুজিয়ে দেয়ার কথা থাকলে দীর্ঘ ৭ বছরেও শেষ হয় নি সেতুর কাজ। তাই ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ জেনেও বাধ্য হয়ে যানচলাচল করতে হয় পুরাতন সেতুতে।
খাগড়াছড়ি সড়ক ও জনপদ বিভাগের নির্বাহী প্রকৌশী মাকসুদুর রহমান বলেন পাটাতন ভাঙ্গার সংবাদ পাওয়ার পরপরই আমাদের সকল ইউনিটকে কাজে নামিয়েছি অল্প সময়ের মধ্যে সেতু মেরামতের কাজ শুরু করবো। এছাড়া নতুন সেতুর কাজ শেষ হয়েছে সংযোগ সড়কের কাজ কিছু বাকী রয়েছে সেটিও চলমান রয়েছে।
খাগড়াছড়ি সড়ক বিভাগ জানায়, ১১ কোটি ৩৫ লাখ টাকা ব্যয়ে সড়ক ও জনপদ বিভাগ ২০১৬ সালের ১১ জানুয়ারি এই সেতু তৈরির কাজ শুরু করে। ২০১৯ সালের ১ জানুয়ারি কাজ শেষ করার কথা ছিল। কুমিল্লা জেলার ঠিকাদারি প্রতিষ্ঠান রানা বিল্ডার্স সেতুটি নির্মাণ করছে। নির্মাণাধীন অবস্থায় এর আগেও একবার এই সেতুর গার্ডারটি ভেঙে পড়ে। স্থানীয়রা জানায়, সেতু নির্মাণে নিন্মমানের সামগ্রী ব্যবহার করায় এর আগেও দুইবার গার্ডার ভেঙে পড়েছিলো। সেতু ভেঙ্গে পড়ার সংবাদ পাওয়ার পরপরই ঘটনা স্থল পরিদর্শন করেন বাঘাইছড়ি উপজেলা পরিষদ ভাইস চেয়ারম্যান আব্দুল কাইয়ুম এসময় তিনি নির্ধারিত সময়ে কাজ শেষ না হওয়ায় ক্ষোভ প্রকাশ করেন।
